Kansas City Chiefs fans, take a deep breath. Head coach Andy Reid is offering some much-needed reassurance about Patrick Mahomes' recovery from that devastating knee injury, and the news is better than you might expect.
Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in his left knee during a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers back in December 2025. It was a gut-punch moment for the Chiefs and their Super Bowl aspirations, but the franchise quarterback wasted no time getting surgery to repair the damage. The goal? A return by Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.
So when Reid sat down with NFL Network's "The Insiders" on May 14, the big question was obvious: How's Pat doing?
"He's doing great right now," Reid said with his trademark optimism. "And that's kinda how you have to go about this. I've said this before. People go, 'Well, he's ahead of schedule,' or, 'Is he ahead of schedule?' And I'm going, 'Who made the schedule?' Everybody's different, right? So, let's just take it day-by-day."
That cautious approach makes sense. No two knee recoveries are alike, and rushing a superstar like Mahomes back would be risky. But Reid did share some encouraging details about the quarterback's work ethic.
"Nobody's spending more time than he is rehabbing," Reid added. "He spent seven hours here going through it. He hasn't missed a day."
Seven hours of rehab in a single day? That's the kind of dedication that separates the greats from the legends. And while the Chiefs are scheduled to kick off the season on "Monday Night Football" in Week 1, Reid insists that matchup isn't some secret signal about Mahomes' readiness. It's just the schedule.
For now, the message is simple: trust the process, trust the rehab, and trust Mahomes. If anyone can come back stronger from a torn ACL and LCL, it's the man who's already redefined what's possible at the quarterback position. Chiefs Kingdom, your patience will be rewarded.
