KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Anthony Kay’s last major-league victory came in 2021. After a five-year wait and a journey that took him to Japan, Anthony Kay is back in the win column. The Chicago White Sox left-hander delivered a masterful performance on Thursday, shutting down the Kansas City Royals to snap a painful 14-game losing streak at Kauffman Stadium with a 2-0 victory.

Kay, whose last major league win came in June 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays, was in complete control. He scattered three hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out six and keeping Royals hitters off balance with a sharp mix of offspeed pitches and a lively fastball. "It's a long time coming," Kay said after the game. "It's definitely really cool."

This win meant more than just a personal milestone. The White Sox had not won in Kansas City since September 2023, a frustrating skid that manager Will Venable was thrilled to end. "To come to this ballpark where we haven't been playing well and to play well was nice," Venable noted, highlighting the significance of breaking the hex.

The offense provided just enough support. In the fourth inning, Munetaka Murakami worked a leadoff walk, and top prospect Colson Montgomery followed with a slicing liner that skipped past the right fielder for an RBI double, plating the game's first run. The bullpen, featuring Grant Taylor, Jordan Leasure, and Seranthony Domínguez, was flawless, preserving the shutout and securing the series-opening win for a Sox team looking to build momentum.

For Kay, who signed a two-year deal with Chicago this past offseason, this was a triumphant return to form. It was a night of ended droughts—both for the pitcher and his team—showcasing the resilience and sharp execution that defines winning baseball.
