The Chicago Wolves beat the Grand Rapids Griffins 2-1 in Game One of the Central Division Finals.

The Chicago Wolves have drawn first blood in the Central Division Finals, edging out the Grand Rapids Griffins 2-1 in a tightly contested Game One. It was a night where goaltending stole the show, but it was the Wolves' netminder who ultimately turned the tide.

The opening period set the stage for a defensive battle. Both teams traded power-play opportunities—two apiece—but neither could find the back of the net. Chicago controlled the shot clock with a 13-6 advantage, yet the Griffins' penalty kill held firm, leaving the game scoreless after 20 minutes.

The second period saw momentum swings worthy of playoff hockey. Chicago came out firing, posting an 8-2 shot advantage in the first half of the frame. But Grand Rapids responded in kind, launching an 8-1 run of their own that finally broke the deadlock. Forward Eduards Tralmaks buried one at the 14:41 mark to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. However, a late-period penalty put the Wolves on their fifth power play with under three minutes remaining. AHL All-Star Justin Robidas made no mistake, leveling the score at 1-1 heading into the third.

The final period belonged to Chicago. The Wolves came out with renewed aggression, outshooting Grand Rapids 8-2 in the first 10:39 minutes. This time, their persistence paid off as captain Josiah Slavin netted the game-winner. From there, the Wolves' defense clamped down, limiting the Griffins to just five unanswered shots for the remainder of the game—never allowing them a clear path to the equalizer.

At the heart of Chicago's victory was goalie Cayden Primeau, who delivered a stellar performance with 23 saves on 24 shots, good for a .958 save percentage. On the other side, Grand Rapids' Michal Postava was nearly as sharp, stopping 30 of 32 shots for a .938 save percentage, but it wasn't enough to steal Game One.

The series now shifts gears as both teams look to adjust. For the Wolves, it's about building on this momentum. For the Griffins, it's about finding a way past Primeau. One thing's for sure: this Central Division Finals is shaping up to be a classic.
