The Cubs go for their eighth consecutive victory.

The Chicago Cubs are on fire, and they're looking to extend their winning streak to eight games as they face the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, May 6, at 6:40 p.m. CT. With the wind at their backs and a packed Wrigley Field crowd behind them, the Cubs are chasing history—and a spot in the record books.

A Streak for the Ages
The Cubs' seven consecutive wins have been anything but easy. Each victory has come against a team with a winning record at the time, a feat that makes this run even more impressive. Since 1901, the Cubs have had 109 winning streaks of at least seven games, but only five of those streaks have seen them beat seven straight teams above .500. A win tonight would put them one step closer to tying their all-time record of nine straight wins, a mark set from September 16-27, 1935. That streak was the final nine of a 21-game run that still stands as the National League record. The Cubs have achieved this rare feat four times before: 1920, 1967, 2016, and 2019.

Home Sweet Home
The Cubs have been nearly unbeatable at Wrigley Field, winning 13 straight home games. That's their longest home winning streak since 2008, when they won 14 in a row from May 18 to June 22. This is the 19th double-digit home winning streak in the modern era (since 1901) and the 15th at Wrigley Field. The franchise record is 18 straight home wins, set in 1935 during a surge that propelled them to the pennant. The 2008 streak ended with a 7-1 win over the White Sox, complete with solo homers from Eric Patterson and Aramis Ramirez. The Cubs will look to keep the good times rolling tonight.

20-Game Dominance
Over their last 20 games, the Cubs are 17-3—their best 20-game stretch since 2016, when they also went 17-3 from July 28 to August 18. That season ended with a World Series title, and fans are hoping this hot streak is a sign of things to come. The only other 17-3 spans since 1945 came in 2001 and 1967. Before that, the Cubs had 77 such stretches (many overlapping) between 1903 and 1945.

With the Reds in town and history on the line, the Cubs are ready to keep their momentum alive. Whether you're at the ballpark or watching from home, this is a game you won't want to miss.
