The rumor mill is buzzing at Stamford Bridge once again, as Chelsea reportedly set their sights on a managerial heavyweight. According to emerging reports, the Blues are considering a blockbuster move for former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernández to take the helm next season.

Currently without a permanent manager following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior last month—and with Enzo Maresca having been shown the door earlier in the campaign—Chelsea's search for a new leader is heating up. The club's hierarchy is keen to establish a distinct footballing identity, and they believe Xavi's philosophy might be the perfect match for their long-term vision.

As reported by journalist Miguel Delany of The Independent, the Spanish tactician is just one name on a shortlist that reads like a who's who of modern football minds. Alongside Xavi, Chelsea are also weighing up Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso, former Blues midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, and Francesco Farioli—the man who just guided Porto to the Portuguese league title.

Interestingly, one name that had been heavily linked in recent weeks—Bournemouth's outgoing boss Andoni Iraola—appears to have fallen out of contention. Sources suggest his high-pressing style doesn't quite align with the footballing blueprint Chelsea's decision-makers have in mind.

For those unfamiliar with Xavi's managerial journey, the former Spain international cut his teeth in Qatar with Al-Sadd before taking the reins at Barcelona early in the 2021/22 season. He quickly repaid the club's faith by securing the La Liga title the following campaign, though a disappointing 2023/24 season eventually led to his replacement by Hansi Flick. Now, with the Premier League calling, could the next chapter of Xavi's coaching career be written in blue?
