The New Orleans Saints are setting their sights on a major turnaround in 2026, and much of that momentum hinges on the elevated expectations surrounding pass-rusher Chase Young. But for Young, the path forward starts with keeping a legendary teammate in the building.
At the fifth annual DeVonta Smith Celebrity Softball event, Young spoke exclusively about the importance of re-signing veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan. For over a decade, Jordan has been the anchor of the Saints' defensive front, and Young made it clear that his presence is irreplaceable—both on and off the field.
"Cam is a big staple to New Orleans," Young said. "He's done a lot for the Saints. So, it's definitely important to get him back."
At 36 years old, Jordan is coming off an impressive 2025 campaign where he recorded 10.5 sacks—just half a sack more than Young's own 10-sack season. Now an unrestricted free agent, Jordan is eyeing a potential 16th season in the black and gold. While his numbers remain elite for a player his age, it's his veteran leadership and locker-room presence that make his return even more critical for a defense built on tradition and chemistry.
But the Saints aren't just focused on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, rookie quarterback Tyler Shough has quickly won over his teammates. Despite being new to New Orleans, Shough has silenced doubters with his poise and command of the huddle. Young noted that Shough's maturity stood out immediately—a trait that the 26-year-old has carried with him since entering the league.
"He always had that leadership in him. He's a vetted young guy," Young said. "That's just how he carries himself. We trust him."
As the Saints push through the offseason and inch closer to the 2026 regular season, all eyes will be on Jordan's decision. Whether he stays or moves on, one thing is clear: the locker room is rallying behind their veteran cornerstone—and the new faces ready to carry the torch.
