Chase Daniel has finally broken his silence on the controversy surrounding his former podcast co-host Dianna Russini and her reported relationship with Mike Vrabel. The former NFL quarterback addressed the situation during an appearance on The Jim Rome Show this week, marking the first time he's spoken publicly about the scandal that has dominated sports headlines.
Daniel and Russini launched the popular Scoop City podcast for The Athletic ahead of the 2024 NFL season, offering fans insider analysis and breaking news. However, episodes abruptly stopped in early March—nearly a month before Page Six published photos suggesting an extramarital relationship between Russini and Vrabel, the former Tennessee Titans head coach now with the New England Patriots.
When Rome asked if Daniel had spoken with Russini since the story broke, the response was measured. "Look, that's something that's just unfortunate in many different ways. And we haven't really chatted about it," Daniel said. "We haven't done any of that, so I'm going to leave that there. That's their business. It has turned into quite the assignment—TMZ is covering it, the Wall Street Journal, all these things are covering it. So I'm sure she'll land on her feet somewhere, and that's all I'll really say about that."
Daniel's comments were notably restrained compared to the more supportive job offer extended to Russini by radio personality Stugotz. The quarterback-turned-analyst seemed focused on avoiding any controversial soundbites. In a different era, Rome might have pressed harder for a juicier quote, but the veteran host took a more respectful approach, simply responding, "I can respect that."
As for the future of Scoop City, The Athletic recently confirmed to Awful Announcing that the podcast is "in transition." If it returns, it will likely feature new co-hosts, with sources indicating Daniel's partnership with Russini is effectively over. For now, the scandal continues to draw attention from major media outlets, but Daniel is clearly ready to move on.
