Charles Oliveira’s stunning victory over Max Holloway at UFC 326 has left the lightweight division buzzing with possibilities. As the Brazilian star plots his next Octagon appearance, one name keeps surfacing: Conor McGregor. But Oliveira’s camp isn’t holding its breath for that super fight.
Speaking on the podcast “Direto de Vegas,” Oliveira’s head coach and manager Diego Lima didn’t mince words. While the team would welcome a showdown with the Irish superstar, Lima believes McGregor is already looking the other way. “McGregor will run away, that’s a fact,” Lima stated bluntly. “He knows he’ll be taken to the ground and crushed like Holloway.”
The timing adds fuel to the fire. McGregor is expected to make his long-awaited return during International Fight Week, ending a five-year absence from the UFC. But Lima insists the matchup is a non-starter, suggesting fear is the real factor. “He would never come back against Charles,” the coach added. “He’s saying he is going to come back, but he would be afraid.”
Despite the McGregor chatter, Oliveira’s focus remains razor-sharp. Lima made it clear that the ultimate goal is another crack at the lightweight title. However, the team isn’t closing the door on other intriguing options. Names like Arman Tsarukyan and Nate Diaz are still on the table as potential stepping stones before a championship bout.
One thing is certain: Oliveira isn’t willing to sit on the sidelines until year’s end. The former champion is eager to stay active, keeping his calendar open for a sooner-than-later return. With the lightweight division heating up, fans can expect fireworks no matter who steps into the cage opposite “Do Bronx.”
