Charissa Thompson has a simple message for Kansas City Chiefs fans: the NFL is better when Travis Kelce is on the field. The veteran sportscaster exclusively shared her thoughts with PEOPLE on Kelce's decision to return for a 14th NFL season, and she couldn't be more excited.
"Was I surprised by it? No. I'm hopeful," Thompson said during Amazon Upfronts on Monday. "The NFL is better when Travis is on the field."
Thompson, who has covered Kelce for nearly two decades, praised the tight end's commitment to the game and his thoughtful approach to the decision. "Obviously, as a person, as a player, everything he's done, I'm excited for him to have another year and make that decision with his friends, his family, and, of course, his fiancée," she added, referring to Taylor Swift.
The 44-year-old Fox sportscaster emphasized that seeing Kelce continue his career on his own terms is what matters most. "Just being able to cover Travis for the better part of almost two decades, it's been exciting, and I just love having him on the field and being able to watch him play and leave on his own terms."
Kelce's return wasn't always a certainty. Back in January, the three-time Super Bowl champion hinted at some hesitation, telling his brother Jason on their "New Heights" podcast that he still has "a lot of love for the game" but acknowledged the decision was "a tough thing to navigate." He added that if his body could heal and he felt confident for another 18 to 21-week season, he'd "do it in a heartbeat."
For fans who love the game—and the gear that goes with it—Kelce's return means another season of electric plays, iconic celebrations, and the chance to wear your Chiefs pride loud and proud. Whether you're gearing up for game day or just love the energy he brings, one thing is clear: the NFL just got a whole lot better.
