The Los Angeles Chargers have made another savvy move this offseason, adding veteran tight end David Njoku on a one-year deal worth up to $8 million. The signing, first reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, brings a proven playmaker to an offense that's already generating buzz.

Njoku, who turns 30 next month, spent his first nine NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns after being selected in the first round of the 2017 draft out of Miami. Over his career, he's found the end zone 34 times and has scored at least four touchdowns in seven different seasons—a testament to his consistency as a red-zone threat.

His breakout campaign came in 2023, when he posted career highs across the board with 81 receptions, 882 yards, and six touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl nod. Since then, however, his production has tapered off. In 2024, he managed 64 catches for 505 yards and five scores in 11 games, but things took a further dip in 2025. After the Browns drafted Harold Fannin Jr., Njoku's role diminished, and he finished with just 33 receptions for 293 yards.

Now, he'll join a Chargers offense led by star quarterback Justin Herbert, where he's expected to complement second-year tight end Oronde Gadsden II. Gadsden impressed as a rookie with 49 catches for 664 yards, and the combination of his emerging talent with Njoku's veteran savvy should give Los Angeles a dynamic two-tight-end set that adds another layer of complexity to their attack.
