The Los Angeles Chargers are making moves to bolster their tight end room, hosting former Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku for a visit on Monday, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Njoku, 29, is coming off a down season in 2025, largely due to the emergence of rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. with the Browns. Last year, Njoku recorded just 33 receptions for 293 yards and four touchdowns—his lowest totals since 2020, when he posted 19 catches for 213 yards and two scores. Still, his experience and athleticism make him an intriguing option for a team looking to add depth.
The Chargers already have a promising young tight end in Oronde Gadsden II, who appears to be the future at the position. They also recently signed former Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar, who is expected to play a key role as a run blocker. Adding a veteran like Njoku could provide valuable insurance and versatility, especially as multiple-tight end sets become increasingly common across the league.
If the Chargers do sign Njoku, it might shift the pecking order within the group. Kolar, who was highly regarded when acquired from Baltimore, could see his pass-catching opportunities diminish, but his role as a blocker likely remains secure. Head coach Mike McDaniel will have to figure out how to best deploy his tight ends, but more weapons on the roster is never a bad thing.
For now, all eyes are on Monday's visit as the Chargers continue to shape their offense for the upcoming season.
