The Los Angeles Chargers are making moves to strengthen their offense, agreeing to a one-year, $8 million deal with veteran tight end David Njoku, as confirmed by his agent Malki Kawa on social media Monday.
Njoku, 29, brings a wealth of experience to the Chargers' tight end room. Originally selected 29th overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft, he signed a four-year, $56.7 million extension in 2022 before being designated as a post-June 1 release this off-season.
Despite a quieter 2025 season—where he recorded 293 yards and four touchdowns on 33 catches in 12 games—Njoku's career numbers speak volumes. Over 118 appearances, he has amassed 384 receptions for 4,062 yards and 34 scores. His standout year came in 2023, when he earned a Pro Bowl nod after posting career highs with 81 catches, 882 yards, and six touchdowns across 16 starts.
Njoku joins a revamped Chargers tight end group that includes promising rookie Oronde Gadsden II—a 2025 fifth-round pick who tallied 664 yards and three scores on 49 catches last season—and Charlie Kolar, whom the Chargers signed to a three-year, $24.3 million contract this off-season.
The Chargers will kick off organized team activities on May 26, followed by mandatory minicamp from June 16 to 18. With Njoku's veteran savvy and proven playmaking ability, Los Angeles is adding a reliable target who could be a key piece in their offensive scheme this season.
