Who will join Coventry in clinching promotion to the Premier League?

The Championship is set for a blockbuster final day, with promotion and play-off spots still hanging in the balance. After a 25-year absence, newly crowned champions Coventry City have already secured their return to the Premier League, but the drama is far from over as several teams fight for the remaining prize.

Ipswich Town currently hold the keys to the second automatic promotion spot, aiming for an immediate return to the top flight. However, Millwall and Middlesbrough are lurking with hope, ready to capitalize on any slip-up. For Ipswich and manager Kieran McKenna, the equation is simple: beat QPR at Portman Road, and they're back in the Premier League, no matter what happens elsewhere.

But a draw would complicate matters. That result would open the door for Millwall to snatch promotion with a home victory over Oxford United. If both Ipswich and Millwall stumble, Middlesbrough could pounce—but only by thrashing play-off hopefuls Wrexham by six goals on the road. Millwall can't go up with a draw due to goal difference, and Middlesbrough must win and hope Ipswich lose while Millwall falters.

In the play-off race, Wrexham, Hull, and Derby are locked in a fierce battle for the final spot, joining FA Cup semi-finalists Southampton. The scenario could easily come down to goal difference. Even a Wrexham win over promotion-chasing Middlesbrough might not be enough if Hull beats Norwich by a wider margin. For instance, if Wrexham wins 2-1 but Hull wins 3-1, the teams would be level on goal difference, but Hull would advance on goals scored.

Yet, the margin for error is razor-thin. Wrexham could still clinch a play-off spot with a one-goal victory if the game is high-scoring. A 4-3 win for Wrexham, paired with a 2-0 Hull win, would reverse the scenario—Wrexham would go through on goals scored despite the tied goal difference. A draw only works for Wrexham if both Hull and Derby fail to win, while Hull would need both Wrexham and Derby to drop points to secure their spot. It's a final day full of twists, and every goal could be the difference between glory and heartbreak.
