The Boston Red Sox have found themselves in a baffling offensive slump, and interim manager Chad Tracy has a theory about what’s going wrong. While the team’s pitching and defense have been shining, the bats have been eerily quiet. As of Thursday, the Red Sox rank near the bottom of Major League Baseball in runs, hits, home runs, walks, and OPS—a shocking drop for a team that boasted one of the league’s better offenses just last season.

Several factors have contributed to this cold streak. Top prospect Roman Anthony has been in and out of the lineup due to injuries, key players are mired in slumps, and the recent departures of stars like Rafael Devers and Alex Bregman have left noticeable holes in the order. But Tracy, speaking on Thursday’s episode of “The Greg Hill Show,” pointed to a simpler explanation: a cluster of talented hitters simply can’t find their rhythm.

“I just think that we have a handful of guys that are really good players that have got off to really bad starts,” Tracy said. “It’s a hard game... the confidence can get affected a little bit. What I’ve seen is you got some guys that are good players that are going through struggles and trying to find their way out of it.”

He’s not wrong. The slump has hit almost every corner of the lineup, with Anthony, Jarren Duran, Trevor Story, Caleb Durbin, Carlos Narvaez, and Marcelo Mayer all underperforming simultaneously. That’s most of the everyday lineup, and it’s creating a ripple effect. When one player struggles, the pressure mounts on others to deliver the big hit—leading to over-aggressive swings and chasing pitches out of the strike zone, especially with runners in scoring position.

Slumps are part of baseball, but the Red Sox’s lineup has too much talent to stay in this rut for long. For fans and fantasy owners alike, patience is key—but the clock is ticking for Boston’s bats to wake up.
