In a major recruiting win for Ryan Day and his staff, Ohio State has secured a cornerstone for its future offensive line. Central Catholic High School star Jimmy Kalis, a towering 6-foot-8, 285-pound offensive tackle, announced his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes live on the Rivals YouTube channel Friday evening, surrounded by family and friends.
The coveted lineman chose Ohio State from a star-studded list of finalists that included college football powerhouses Georgia, Texas, Clemson, Miami, and LSU. Kalis, a Rivals 4-star prospect ranked as the No. 21 offensive tackle in the Class of 2027, collected over 40 Power Four scholarship offers, a testament to his elite potential in the trenches.
Explaining his decision, Kalis highlighted the program's proven track record. "They have been there and been very consistent since Day 1," he told Rivals earlier this year. "They develop OL at a high level and have an elite culture and they take pride in getting guys to the next level." For a player with NFL aspirations, joining a program known as "O-Line University" is a strategic and exciting step.
Kalis is coming off a dominant season where he was a key piece of a Central Catholic offensive line that powered the Vikings to a 13-2 record, a WPIAL championship, and a state title game appearance. His performance earned him all-conference honors and the praise of his coach, Ryan Lehmeier, who called him "a great kid who is so focused on what he wants."
With his commitment now public, Kalis can focus on his final high school season before heading to Columbus to join one of the nation's most talented recruiting classes. For Buckeye fans, the addition of a massive, athletic tackle like Kalis means the pipeline of dominant offensive linemen in Columbus is set to continue for years to come.
