The NBA announced that Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is a finalist for the 2026 Social Justice Champion award.

Since stepping onto the Boston Celtics' court, Jaylen Brown has been as impactful off the hardwood as he is on it. The five-time All-Star has consistently prioritized community uplift, from supporting minority-owned businesses across the city to sending underserved students to college through his 7uice Foundation Bridge Program. Now, his tireless efforts have earned him a spot as a finalist for the 2026 NBA Social Justice Champion award.

Brown joins an elite group of nominees for the prestigious Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Trophy, including Miami Heat's Bam Adebayo, Detroit Pistons' Tobias Harris, San Antonio Spurs' Harrison Barnes, and Cleveland Cavaliers' Larry Nance Jr. This marks the sixth year the NBA has recognized players who champion social justice, honoring the legacy of Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The NBA highlighted Brown's commitment in an official press release: "Jaylen Brown has continued to advance economic equity and educational access through investments focused on entrepreneurship, ownership, and workforce development opportunities for Black and Brown communities." From Roxbury to Cambridge, his influence spans the greater Boston area, driven by a philosophy instilled by his mother, Mechalle Brown, an educator who taught him the importance of service from a young age.

"No matter how tall you are, and how well you play the game, basketball is what you do, it is not who you are," Brown's mother once told him, as shared by The Ringer. "Who you are is measured by the mark you leave on the world. And to truly leave a mark on the world, you have to do the right things, and speak out against the wrong things. But in order to do that, you have to use your voice. After you use your voice you have to back it up with actions."

For fans looking to channel Jaylen Brown's winning mindset both on and off the court, his journey reminds us that true champions are defined by their actions beyond the game.
