Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has fired a warning shot ahead of Saturday's blockbuster title decider against Hearts, declaring his side are "up for the fight" as they chase a dramatic Premiership comeback.
The Hoops looked down and out after a devastating defeat at Dundee United in late March left them five points adrift of the leaders. With the title slipping away, fans feared the worst. But Celtic have responded like champions, rattling off six consecutive Premiership victories to close the gap to just one point heading into the final day.
Now, with a raucous Parkhead crowd behind them, O'Neill's men need a win to snatch the crown from Hearts' grasp. The veteran boss, who has stepped in twice this season to steady the ship, is confident his squad is ready for the pressure.
"I just think they're ready for the game," O'Neill said. "They've had things their own way in recent times, now they've had to fight, and so far they've shown that they're up for it, they're ready to go. We have faults in our team, naturally. But I could not question their commitment or their willingness to get back again."
Reflecting on the season's low point, O'Neill admitted: "Probably the only time was at Tannadice, when I thought they just didn't perform. A lot of it was down to me as well. But the team has come fighting back, roaring back. So they deserve this opportunity to get to the last match."
For the 74-year-old, Saturday marks a poignant moment—his final league game in charge. After two rescue missions this campaign, O'Neill is hoping to finally enjoy the occasion. "I would say, yeah, more than a reasonable chance that will be my last game," he added. "It was a privilege to come back again. I'd never thought in a million years that this could have happened, and so I should actually enjoy it more than I'm doing."
As Celtic gear up for what promises to be a nail-biting finale, fans will be hoping their team can channel that fighting spirit one more time. With the title on the line, every tackle, pass, and goal will matter. The stage is set for a classic showdown.
