Celtic 3-1 Rangers: What O'Neill said

Celtic interim manager Martin O'Neill is delighted to win but admits they still have "two mountains to climb" in their bid to retain the Scottish title. "It was a big win for us and I thought we were terrific in the second half, coming from behind against big rivals," he tells BBC Scotland.

In a thrilling Old Firm derby that had fans on the edge of their seats, Celtic interim manager Martin O'Neill couldn't hide his joy after his side's 3-1 comeback victory over Rangers. But despite the euphoria, O'Neill kept his feet firmly on the ground, acknowledging the monumental challenge ahead in their quest to retain the Scottish Premiership title.

"It was a massive win for us," O'Neill told BBC Scotland, his voice still carrying the energy of the match. "I thought we were absolutely terrific in the second half, especially coming from behind against our biggest rivals. That takes real character."

The manager was quick to single out his standout performers on a night when the Hoops showed their fighting spirit. "I couldn't be more delighted with the team, and certain individuals were simply magnificent. The captain led by example, and Daizen Maeda—what can you say? He's pulled it through for us again, showing why he's such a crucial part of this squad."

O'Neill acknowledged that Rangers came to play and posed a real threat, but he was most proud of the way his team responded. "They came at us, and they did well in spells. But the manner in which we fought back—that's what this club is all about."

Looking ahead, the interim boss knows there's no room for complacency. "The midweek game against Motherwell is going to be extremely difficult. They're a fine footballing team, and we can't afford to take our foot off the gas."

Reflecting on the title race, O'Neill was realistic but optimistic. "We had that game at Dundee United where we questioned ourselves, but the team have come roaring back since then. The whole effort from the squad has been terrific. We might fall short at the end of it all—who knows? But it's been a fabulous effort, and we're roared on here by a raucous crowd who I believe have carried us through a few times."

With two "mountains to climb" still ahead, Celtic's journey is far from over. But if this performance is anything to go by, the Hoops are ready to fight every step of the way.
