Big changes are coming to your PGA Championship viewing experience this year. ESPN is taking full control of the early-round coverage, meaning CBS—and its iconic duo of Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman—will not be part of the Thursday and Friday broadcasts.

For the past six years, CBS announcers have traditionally stepped in for two hours each day during those early rounds. But according to a report from Sports Business Journal, that's all changing in 2024. ESPN will now handle all the action from Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia on Thursday and Friday, airing eight hours of coverage each day.

This shift means ESPN's golf crew, led by the ever-popular Scott Van Pelt, will have the mic from the first tee shot to the final putt on those opening days. CBS will then take over for the weekend rounds, where viewership traditionally peaks. Interestingly, this move gives ESPN more total hours of PGA Championship coverage than CBS, even though the weekend draws the biggest audiences.

Why the change? It's part of a broader strategy as ESPN continues to expand its golf footprint. The network already handles early-round coverage of both the PGA Championship and the Masters, and it's a founding partner of the tech-infused TGL league. With streaming giants like Prime Video now airing early Masters rounds and Netflix producing golf docuseries, ESPN is doubling down on its commitment to the sport.

So, as you gear up for the season's second major, get ready for a fresh broadcast lineup—and a whole lot more ESPN in your Thursday and Friday golf viewing.
