The Cleveland Cavaliers had their sights set on the Milwaukee Bucks' star forward earlier this season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were busy behind the scenes this past trade season, and their ambitions may have been even bigger than fans realized. According to a report from Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Cavaliers reached out to the Milwaukee Bucks about trading for superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo before the February deadline.

This revelation adds a fascinating layer to Cleveland's already eventful season. On February 4, the 2016 NBA champions made headlines by sending Darius Garland and a second-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for James Harden. But it seems the Cavs had their sights set on an even bigger prize.

Fischer reported that the Bucks' asking price for Antetokounmpo was steep: "It would take Evan Mobley and all of Cleveland's available draft capital to get it done." While some might balk at giving up Mobley—a talented young big man who shot 37% from three-point range in the previous two seasons—rival executives around the league reportedly believe it's a move worth making.

Fast forward to the present, and that hypothetical deal looks increasingly tempting for Cleveland. The Cavaliers find themselves in a 2-0 hole in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Detroit Pistons, failing to steal a game on the road. Mobley has been solid but hasn't been the game-changer the Cavs need in this series.

Enter Antetokounmpo: a two-time MVP and defensive powerhouse who brings a physical presence that few can match. While he may not stretch the floor like Mobley, the "Greek Freak" is a dominant force on both ends—exactly the kind of player who could elevate a team from contender to champion.

Of course, any trade would have to wait until the offseason. For now, Cleveland's focus must be on climbing out of their series deficit. But if the Pistons advance as expected, don't be surprised if the Cavaliers revisit that conversation. After all, in the high-stakes world of NBA basketball, sometimes the biggest moves are the ones that never quite happen—until they do.
