After their 18th road loss in 25 games, the Detroit Tigers blamed a lack of routine for their lagging offense as the visitors.

The Detroit Tigers are facing a familiar and frustrating roadblock—and it's not their pitching or defense. After dropping their 18th road game in 25 tries this season, the Tigers (19-24) are pointing fingers at one glaring issue: their bats have gone silent when it matters most.

In a heartbreaking 3-2, 10-inning loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field on Wednesday, the Tigers managed just one hit in nine chances with runners in scoring position. That's a recipe for disaster, and it's become a painful trend. Over the first two games of this series, they're a combined 1-for-18 in those clutch moments—a fast track to losing back-to-back games.

The road trip hasn't been kind, either. With a 1-4 record so far on this two-city swing and one game left on Thursday, the Tigers are now mired in a 12-17 stretch over their last 17 games. During this skid, both pitching and defense have stumbled, but the offense has been the loudest culprit.

"We've started to try to do a lot because you try to do something with your opportunities," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. "There's always the conversation about pressing and trying to do too much and swinging out of the zone or not swinging enough. Right now, it feels like all the above."

It's not all doom and gloom. The Tigers got solid pitching from Framber Valdez, Kyle Finnegan, and Kenley Jansen to carry them through nine innings. Their defense was sharp, cutting down runners at the plate and making both routine and highlight-reel plays without a single error. But when you can't capitalize with runners on base, even the best pitching and defense can only do so much.

For a team looking to build momentum, the message is clear: they need to find a way to get those big hits on the road. Whether it's a matter of routine, focus, or just a bit of luck, the Tigers have to solve this puzzle—and fast.
