Ashton Massey is making waves for Augustana University track and field, and her recent performance at the Drake Relays is turning heads. The sophomore from Olivet and Menno High School graduate posted a personal-best score of 4,737 points in the heptathlon on April 22-23, securing sixth place overall. Not only was that the top mark among all Division II competitors, but she also clocked personal-best times in the 200-meter run (25.77 seconds) and the 800 meters (2:18.93), finishing third in the 200.

Earlier in April, Massey dominated the Sioux City Relays, winning the heptathlon with a score of 4,592 points. She showcased her versatility by finishing first in the 800-meter run (2:22.40), shot put (35-2.5), and 100 hurdles (15.00), while taking second in the 200-meter dash (26.24). The heptathlon also includes long jump, javelin, and high jump—events where Massey continues to improve.

As of April 30, Massey has already met the Division II national qualifying standard and ranks 35th on the qualifying list. Only the top 16 advance to the NCAA Division II meet, so every competition counts. She's no stranger to the national stage, having earned second-team All-American honors during the indoor season with a 14th-place finish in the pentathlon—her first NCAA national meet appearance.

Looking ahead, the NSIC outdoor championships are set for May 7-9 in Duluth, Minnesota, with the NCAA outdoor nationals following on May 21-23 in Emporia, Kansas. For fans of multi-event athletes, Massey is definitely one to watch.

Over on the baseball diamond, Bon Homme High School graduate Riley Rothschadl has been a key arm for the Augustana Vikings in 2026. The Tabor native posts a 5.82 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP over seven appearances, including two starts. He holds a 1-0 record with 22 strikeouts in 17 innings, walking just 10 while holding opponents to a .246 batting average.

Rothschadl opened his season with a bang: four no-hit innings against Bemidji State on Feb. 9, striking out seven. He also earned the win in a 17-9 victory over the University of Mary on April 3, tossing 3 2/3 innings of relief with three hits, two runs, and five strikeouts. Most recently, he fanned three batters in one inning against Sioux Falls on April 26.

As of April 30, the Vikings sit just a half-game out of first place in the NSIC with a 28-6 league record, trailing 28-5 Minnesota State. Overall, Augustana is 35-12 and closes the regular season with a three-game series against Minnesota Crookston on May 1-2 in Sioux Falls. The NSIC baseball tournament follows from May 6-9 at Ronken Field and Sioux Falls Stadium—so keep an eye on Rothschadl as the postseason heats up.
