As the likely captain of Brazil at the upcoming World Cup, Casemiro has weighed in on the Neymar debate that's been dominating football headlines. The Manchester United midfielder made his stance clear: if the Santos star is fully fit, there should be no question about his place in the squad.

"It's a very awkward topic to talk about. I'm Neymar's friend. I've played with him since we were 12 years old," Casemiro told ESPN Brasil, his tone reflecting the deep bond between the two longtime teammates. "It's very clear. At least in my opinion. Neymar doesn't have to prove anything to anyone."

The veteran midfielder pointed to the coaching staff's focus on physical readiness under manager Carlo Ancelotti. "Ancelotti has already made the physical issue clear, whether he'll be able to get closer to the ideal level physically. Talent... I don't even need to talk about what a great player he is, what a great player he has been, and the talent he has with the ball at his feet."

Casemiro didn't mince words when wrapping up his thoughts. "The big issue is the physical side. If he's physically fit, there's no discussion. He has to go to the World Cup. He's the team's main man, he's the team's star. The issue is that it's also up to him to be physically fit."

With Ancelotti set to announce the final 26-man squad on the 18th at an event at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro, time is running out for Neymar to prove his fitness. He has only four remaining opportunities to make his case. He missed the match against Palmeiras last Saturday due to concerns over the artificial pitch, and now faces a crucial stretch.

The first test comes this Tuesday against Recoleta in Paraguay, a Copa Sudamericana Group D clash that Santos desperately needs to win—they're currently bottom of the group. Then comes a BrasileirĆ£o match, with the team sitting a disappointing 16th and needing to bounce back. Finally, there are two matches against Coritiba: a cup tie after a goalless first leg, followed by a league encounter.

For a player of Neymar's caliber, these next few games could define not just his club season but his World Cup dream. And as Casemiro made clear, the football world is watching closely.
