The Las Vegas Aces bounced back in a big way Sunday night, dismantling the Los Angeles Sparks 105-78 in a dominant road performance. After a tough season-opening loss to Phoenix, the defending WNBA champions showed exactly why they're still the team to beat.
Chennedy Carter led all scorers with 22 points, while Jackie Young stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points and nine assists. A'ja Wilson added 19 points and four rebounds, reaching a historic milestone in the process. Wilson now has 2,502 career rebounds in 269 games, tying Lisa Leslie for the third-fastest player to reach 2,500 boards in WNBA history. Tina Charles holds the record at 248 games.
The Aces shot an incredible 62% from the field (43-of-69), marking the second-best shooting performance in franchise history. Chelsea Gray chipped in 16 points, and NaLyssa Smith contributed 12 off the bench.
Las Vegas seized control early, closing the first quarter on a 14-0 run over the final 3:30 to take a 29-14 lead. During that stretch, the Sparks went 0-for-6 from the floor and committed three turnovers. Los Angeles fought back in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 42-41 at halftime behind nine points from Kelsey Plum.
But the Aces came out firing in the third quarter, opening with a 12-4 spurt and outscoring the Sparks 33-18 in the period. Carter's layup with 4:21 left in the quarter pushed the lead to 61-51, and Las Vegas never looked back.
Nneka Ogwumike, playing her first game back with the Sparks after two seasons in Seattle, finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in a strong homecoming performance.
The Aces now head east for a two-game road trip against Connecticut on Wednesday and Friday, looking to build on this impressive bounce-back victory.
