Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick said Friday he expects his Old Trafford future to be resolved "pretty soon" following reports he will be offered the job on a permanent basis.Asked about his future, Carrick told reporters: "Can't blame you for asking, two games to go, there's not much else I can say.

Michael Carrick’s future at Manchester United is set to be decided “pretty soon,” with reports suggesting the interim manager could be handed the role on a permanent basis. The former United midfielder has impressed since taking over from the sacked Ruben Amorim in January, guiding the club back to Champions League qualification and earning widespread praise for his steady hand.

With just two games left in the season, Carrick addressed the speculation head-on. “Can’t blame you for asking,” he told reporters with a smile. “The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon. We knew that was going to be towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season, so nothing has changed.”

United’s hierarchy, including chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, are reportedly set to recommend Carrick to co-owner Jim Ratcliffe. Contract talks for a two-year deal, with an option for a third season, are believed to be in the works and could be wrapped up by the end of the week.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for Carrick, who previously struggled to lead Middlesbrough back to the Premier League before leaving the Championship side in 2025. At United, however, he has been a unifying force after Amorim’s turbulent reign, lifting the team to third place in the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

Carrick’s deep connection to the club is undeniable. During his 12-year playing career at Old Trafford, he won the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, and League Cup. Now, as a coach, he’s bringing that same winning mentality back to the touchline.

“It’s a unique football club, a special football club,” Carrick said. “I’m immensely proud to have come back and been a part of it, to help. As a supporter and ex-player, to come back and help move the club forward was important. To make a big step and get back in the Champions League is good. We’re happy with the work we’ve done.”

With the season winding down, all eyes are on Carrick’s next move—and whether he’ll be the man to lead United into a new era.
