Hockey fans have a new reason to raise their glasses—or in this case, their skates. The Carolina Hurricanes have scored big with their latest viral novelty: the Beer Skate. Following in the footsteps of the Beer Sabre and the Tusk Mug, this plastic shoe-shaped cup is the NHL's newest must-have for fans looking to ditch the ordinary.

Debuting during the Hurricanes' Game 1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, the Beer Skate quickly became the talk of the rink. Priced at $19 empty or $12 plus the cost of a beer, these clever containers feature a handle for easy chugging and a clear skate design that lets you admire your brew. It's a playful twist on stadium tradition that had fans lacing up in style.

The response was nothing short of phenomenal. The Hurricanes announced that 4,687 Beer Skates flew off the shelves at Lenovo Arena on Saturday—that's a quarter of the 18,620 fans in attendance. According to Adam Hoffman, the team's vice president of food and beverage, 2,000 skates were gone within just 45 minutes of the gates opening. Staff scrambled to bring in 1,000 extra skates from the warehouse after a viral promotional post, and another 2,000 were rushed in mid-game as demand soared.

"I don't want to say we weren't prepared for them to buy as many as they did, but obviously we didn't think it was going to blow up exactly the way that it did, which is just so awesome," Hoffman shared with ESPN. While the skates took months to produce and won't be available for the rest of the postseason, Hoffman hasn't ruled out a future comeback.

This viral sensation is the latest proof that hockey fans love a good gimmick—and a cold beer. Whether you're cheering from the stands or just looking for a conversation starter, the Beer Skate is a slam dunk for any fan's collection. For now, though, you'll have to wait for the next drop. Lace up your anticipation, because this trend is just getting started.
