Hockey fans have a new reason to raise their glasses—or rather, their skates. The Carolina Hurricanes have unveiled the Beer Skate, the latest viral novelty beer container to take the NHL by storm, following in the foamy footsteps of the Buffalo Sabres' Beer Sabre and the Tusk Mug.

Debuting at the Hurricanes' Game 1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, the Beer Skate is a plastic shoe-shaped cup designed to hold your favorite brew. It comes complete with a handle for easy chugging and a clear skate bottom, giving fans a proper look at their beverage of choice. Priced at $19 empty or $12 plus the cost of beer, it's a collectible that's already making waves.

The response was nothing short of electric. Carolina announced that 4,687 Beer Skates were sold at Lenovo Arena on Saturday—a staggering one-quarter of the full attendance of 18,620 fans. Adam Hoffman, the Hurricanes' vice president of food and beverage, told The Athletic that the team sold 2,000 skates within just 45 minutes of the gates opening. Staff scrambled to bring 1,000 extra skates from the warehouse after a promotional post went viral, and another 2,000 were rushed in during the game as demand skyrocketed.

This frenzy is the latest proof that hockey fans love to drink their beer out of something other than a boring old cup. In November, the Buffalo Sabres debuted the Beer Sabre—a plastic sword filled with Labatt—which sold out after just a few home games. The Hurricanes' Beer Skate follows that same playbook, turning a simple drink into a game-day souvenir.

Due to the months-long production process, the Beer Skate won't be available for the rest of the postseason, but the team has hinted it may return next season. For now, fans who snagged one have a piece of hockey history—and a perfect way to toast to a win.
