Carlos Alcaraz didn’t waste any time putting his Monte Carlo Masters final loss behind him. On Sunday, he fell 6-7, 3-6 to Jannik Sinner, who also regained the world number one ranking from Alcaraz with that win.

Carlos Alcaraz is already shifting his focus after a tough weekend. The young Spaniard fell to Jannik Sinner in straight sets in the Monte Carlo Masters final, a result that also saw Sinner reclaim the world No. 1 ranking. But in the fast-paced world of tennis, there's little time to dwell, and Alcaraz has quickly turned his attention to a familiar hunting ground: the Barcelona Open.

Alcaraz began his quest for a third Barcelona title with a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory over Finland's Otto Virtanen. However, the win came with a note of concern, as the 20-year-old revealed he's managing some physical discomfort. "It's been tough, it's been a bit of a struggle," Alcaraz admitted in his post-match press conference, citing a tight schedule that left little time to adapt to the new court conditions.

The Spaniard described the issue as a familiar discomfort that has surfaced due to back-to-back tournaments and "unusual movements," but he remains optimistic it won't develop into anything serious. "It's a discomfort I've had before which has never led to anything more serious, so let's hope it's the same this time," he stated, adding that he would be assessed by his physio and team.

Statistically, Alcaraz was efficient against Virtanen, converting four of seven break points and dominating on the Finn's second serve. Yet, the match wasn't without its challenges. Alcaraz acknowledged a difficult start finding his rhythm and finished with 32 unforced errors—a higher number than his typical standard. With his next match against Czech player Tomas Machac on the horizon, Alcaraz will be looking to elevate his level while carefully managing his body, a constant balancing act for any elite athlete aiming for the top.
