Cards, Hooks duel on Star Wars night

It was a night of intergalactic excitement at Route 66 Stadium as the Springfield Cardinals faced off against the Corpus Christi Hooks in their Texas League series. Springfield entered the game with a strong 2-1 series lead, and with the added thrill of wearing special R2-D2 jerseys for Star Wars night, the energy was electric from the first pitch.

The Hooks struck first, channeling the dark side in the top of the first inning. Joseph Sullivan launched a deep home run over the Rick's sign in right field, giving Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead. They added two more runs in the inning, making it 3-0 before the Cardinals could respond.

But the force soon awakened in Springfield. In the bottom of the first, Chase Davis delivered a clutch hit over first base and into right field, allowing Jon Jon Gazdar to score and cutting the deficit to 3-1. The momentum continued to build, and by the time Zach Levenson looped a single into left field, Davis had tied the game at 3-3, giving the Cards a new hope.

However, the empire struck back in the third inning. Trevor Austin crushed a deep home run to left field, clearing the home run deck and putting the Hooks ahead 4-3. The back-and-forth battle was far from over, as Springfield answered in the bottom half of the inning. Ryan Campos, with the force strong in him, launched a towering blast to right field—his fourth home run of the season—tying the game once again at 4-4.

The game continued its thrilling pace, but eventually, a rain delay in the eighth inning halted the action with the Hooks leading 11-8. Despite the interruption, the Star Wars-themed night at the ballpark was a memorable one for fans, showcasing the spirit of competition and the love of the game.
