Cardiff City have locked down their promotion-winning goalkeeper, Nathan Trott, on a permanent deal that keeps him at the club through the summer of 2029. After a stellar season on loan from Copenhagen, the 27-year-old has signed a three-year contract, with the transfer fee—officially undisclosed but reported at £1.5 million—already baked into the original loan agreement.

Trott was the backbone of Cardiff's League One campaign, making 41 appearances and racking up 16 clean sheets as the Bluebirds secured an instant return to the Championship. His shot-stopping earned him a nomination for the club's Player of the Season award, but it was his composure on the ball that truly caught the eye—a key asset for head coach Brian Barry-Murphy's expansive style of play.

"It's something that I've wanted to get across the line," Trott told the club website. "Through the course of the season, I think that all of us were on the same page to get it done, so for it to finally be done now is an amazing feeling."

Interestingly, Trott credits his ball-playing skills to his formative years in Bermuda, where he played in midfield and defense before a chance injury to a teammate forced him into goal during an under-15 tournament. That switch caught the eye of former West Ham striker Clyde Best, who recommended him to the Premier League side. Over five years with the Hammers, Trott gained valuable experience on loan at AFC Wimbledon, French side Nancy, and Denmark's Vejle before joining Copenhagen in 2024.

Now, as a permanent Bluebird, Trott is ready to build on last season's momentum. "I think it's the perfect group to be part of," he added. "With Brian we've got a good group of players, a good core of young players, the Welsh boys, a few experienced players, and I think we all just gel together really well. I've felt the love of the fans since the first game, and as the season has gone on it's only grown every single game. It's been an amazing feeling; it makes it easier for me to play every game knowing that they're behind you."
