Katrina Gorry, who will leave West Ham when her contract expires next month, says captaining the side has been "the greatest honour".

Katrina Gorry, the captain of West Ham United, has announced she will leave the club when her contract expires at the end of June, calling her time in charge "the greatest honour" of her career. The 33-year-old Australian international, who joined the Women's Super League (WSL) side in January 2024, has made over 50 appearances and will play her final match this Saturday against WSL champions Manchester City.

While West Ham offered Gorry a new deal, the midfielder made the difficult decision to decline, prioritizing what was best for her family. A mother of two young children, Gorry has been a powerful voice during her time in east London, using her platform to openly discuss motherhood in women's football, eating disorders, and her journey through IVF. "It's an emotional time to be leaving West Ham, but I know this is the right decision for me and my family," she said. "I've enjoyed so many incredible moments over the last two and a half years, and captaining this team has been the greatest honour."

Gorry's impact on and off the pitch has been immense. Last season, she played every WSL match as West Ham recorded their highest points tally in the top flight. In the 2025-26 campaign, she has made 18 appearances across all competitions and also helped Australia reach the Women's Asian Cup final. Reflecting on her journey, Gorry added: "West Ham is a special club with an incredible fanbase that always shows up. The fans have seen so much growth, and I'm proud to have been part of that journey. I came here with a two-year-old daughter, and I'm leaving east London with an even bigger family. I leave a better person and a better player, and for that I'll always be grateful."

Manager Rita Guarino, who took over in December, praised Gorry's leadership. "It has been a pleasure to work with Mini during my time at West Ham," Guarino said. "Her experience, resilience, and desire to win have been a real asset to the club and have helped drive this team forward." As Gorry prepares for her final bow in claret and blue, fans will no doubt give the departing captain a fitting send-off at the weekend.
