The diamond is heating up across Cape Cod and the Islands, and it's time to recognize the best of the best on the mound, at the plate, and in the field. Our High School Baseball Player of the Week poll is now open, and the candidates are bringing their A-game from every corner of the region.

From power pitchers delivering heat to clutch hitters driving in runs, this week's lineup of nominees showcases the depth of talent in Cape and Islands baseball. Whether it's a Sturgis West hurler painting the corners or a St. John Paul II slugger crushing a line drive, these athletes are earning their spot in the spotlight.

One standout moment came during a recent showdown at Lowell Park in Cotuit, where Sturgis Charter Public School hosted St. John Paul II. The action was electric: Sturgis pitcher Stanley Conrad fired a fastball to a St. John Paul II batter in the first inning, while catcher Hunter Mayo braced for a throw home as Brandon Gomes came barreling in to score. On the other side, St. John Paul II's Drew Richards delivered a sharp pitch to a Sturgis hitter, and Marshall Glover showed his toughness as he prepared to take one for the team in the second inning.

Defensive gems also shined bright, with St. John Paul II's Logan Our making a slick play in the field and Sturgis's Casey Cameron keeping his eye on the ball from first base. And let's not forget Brian Mancinelli, who tracked his first-inning hit with laser focus.

With voting closing Monday, now's your chance to back your favorite player. Who will take the title? Cast your vote and help crown this week's top performer. And while you're at it, gear up for the season with baseball apparel that's as ready for game day as these athletes are.
