Canadiens Highlights: Lightning Force Game Seven

The Montreal Canadiens stepped onto home ice Friday night with a golden opportunity—win their fourth game of the playoffs and close out the series. But the Tampa Bay Lightning had other plans, delivering a gritty 1-0 overtime victory to force a decisive Game Seven.

From the opening puck drop, the energy was electric, but the hockey was anything but polished. Both teams traded sloppy shifts that somehow created plenty of scoring chances. The Lightning jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage in high-danger 5v5 chances, and Yanni Gourde nearly capitalized when Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes bobbled the puck—only to miss a wide-open net.

Physicality took a backseat to speed in the first period, with whistles few and far between. That didn't stop Juraj Slafkovsky from delivering a clean, punishing hit on Brandon Hagel that drew no penalty but sent a clear message.

The second period belonged to unsung heroes. Phillip Danault, re-acquired by the Canadiens this season for his defensive instincts, made a jaw-dropping goal-saving play that reminded everyone why he's so valuable in tight playoff games.

Late in the third, rookie sensation Ivan Demidov had two golden chances to break the deadlock. But Lightning netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy, playing his best game of the series, shut the door with two lightning-quick saves.

Now, it all comes down to one game. The Canadiens will need to regroup and find a way past Vasilevskiy if they want to keep their playoff dreams alive.
