Canadian pass rusher Nuer Gatkuoth is turning his attention north after a promising tryout with the Denver Broncos. The 6-foot-3, 237-pound edge defender was among 33 rookie tryout players at Denver's rookie minicamp over the weekend, but the Broncos ultimately signed cornerback Paul Manning and veteran wide receiver Mike Woods instead.
Gatkuoth, however, isn't letting the setback slow him down. Originally selected fourth overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL draft before the minicamp, he's now set to make his mark in Canadian football in 2026. According to the Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson, the Broncos have told Gatkuoth they'll monitor his progress in the CFL and could bring him back for the 2027 season.
Born in Edmonton, Gatkuoth's football journey has taken him across borders. He played high school football in Alberta and Toronto before moving to Atlanta, then spent three years at Colorado State before transferring to Wake Forest in 2025. Last fall, he showed his versatility with 21 tackles, two sacks, one interception, and a pass breakup.
For fans who love tracking underdog stories, Gatkuoth's path is a reminder that talent can find a way—whether it's in the NFL or the CFL. If he dominates in Canada, don't be surprised to see him back in Broncos colors in 2027. Sometimes the best comebacks start with a detour.
