Porter Martone just can't stop—and why would he want to?
The 19-year-old Flyers rookie has already packed more hockey into one season than most players see in years. After wrapping up his freshman campaign at Michigan State, he jumped straight into 9 regular-season NHL games, followed by 10 playoff appearances. Oh, and somewhere in between, he competed at the 2026 World Juniors Championships. Now, with the season barely over, Martone is heading to the 2026 IIHF Men's World Championships in Switzerland.
During Tuesday's exit interviews, Martone confirmed the news with a grin. "I love playing this game. It's tough to take me off the ice," he said. "It's tough to turn down a chance to represent your country. It's always a huge honor whenever you get asked. I'm really excited; it should be a fun time."
This will be Martone's second appearance at the men's Worlds. He first joined Team Canada's training camp just before the draft, playing in two games and meeting future Flyers teammates Travis Konecny, Travis Sanheim, and Tyson Foerster. That early connection with the veterans has clearly paid off.
Martone's 2025-26 season reads like a highlight reel: a bronze medal at the World Juniors, an NCAA Tournament appearance with Michigan State, a second-round run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and now the World Championships. At just 19, he's proving that rest is overrated when you're chasing greatness.
Martone will be the Flyers' lone Canadian representative at the tournament, while teammate Jack Berglund has been named to Sweden's roster. For Flyers fans, it's a glimpse of the bright future ahead—young talent making waves on the international stage.
From the NCAA to the NHL playoffs to representing his country again, Porter Martone is showing exactly why he's a name to watch. And he's just getting started.
