Cameron Young captured the 2026 Cadillac Championship at the iconic Trump National Doral Miami "Blue Monster" course, but what made this victory truly unforgettable was the man watching from the gallery—former President Donald Trump. In a post-tournament press conference, Young opened up about the experience of winning with such a high-profile spectator, calling it "very unique."
While the win itself was a career milestone, the atmosphere surrounding the event was anything but ordinary. Young described the heightened security presence, with Secret Service agents and police creating a distinct vibe that set this tournament apart from your typical PGA Tour stop. "Once you get out there, you're out doing your job, but everything that leads up to that—the place is obviously crawling in Secret Service and security and police—it has a definitely different feel," he explained.
The day didn't exactly start smoothly for Young, either. He recounted a small but telling moment when he tried to enter the clubhouse through a side door he'd been using all week, only to be stopped by two agents who informed him, "We're not letting anybody through this way right now." Forced to take a detour around the entire clubhouse, Young admitted that while these disruptions altered his rhythm initially, the day's weather delays had already thrown his routine off enough that he quickly adjusted. "It changed the rhythm of the day a little bit to start, but it was already so thrown off by the delays that it didn't matter too much," he said with a shrug.
After securing the win, Young had the chance to meet Trump personally. He thanked the former president for hosting the championship and was met with warm praise. "He was just very complimentary," Young recalled. "I've been fortunate to meet him before, and especially with us golfers, it's something he loves. I think he appreciates how good everybody is on the PGA Tour."
Young made it clear that playing in front of such a notable audience was both an honor and a privilege. "It's very unique," he emphasized. "Hugely grateful to him and his family and his organization that has these beautiful properties and allows us to come and play great golf tournaments on them." For any golfer, winning is special—but doing so with a former president cheering you on? That's a memory that will last a lifetime.
