First-team coach and former player Barry Corr leaves Cambridge United by mutual agreement in the wake of their promotion back to League One.

In a bittersweet turn of events for Cambridge United fans, club legend Barry Corr has parted ways with the U's just as the team celebrates its hard-fought promotion back to League One. The departure, described as a mutual agreement, marks the end of an era for a man who has been synonymous with the club for over a decade.

Corr's journey with Cambridge is the stuff of local football folklore. Before hanging up his boots, the striker was a goal-scoring machine, netting 19 times in just 41 appearances for the U's. But his contributions didn't stop when he retired from playing. In 2019, he returned to the club as a development coach, nurturing the next generation of talent.

His dedication didn't go unnoticed. By 2021, Corr had earned a spot on the first-team coaching staff, and he even stepped up as interim head coach on two occasions. It's the kind of loyalty that builds championship-winning cultures—something every team, from grassroots to the pros, knows is essential for success.

"I've been fortunate to work under three excellent head coaches, all of whom have informed and helped shape my ideas and understanding of the game," Corr reflected. "While there's definitely sadness in leaving, there's also real excitement about what comes next, and I feel now is the right time to move on and embrace a new challenge."

One of those head coaches was Mark Bonner, now the club's director of football. Bonner had nothing but praise for his former colleague: "Barry has been an excellent servant for 11 years, performing multiple roles both on and off the pitch, and we thank him for his tireless effort. We part ways mutually as we both realise a natural moment to do so, allowing the club to prepare for the new season and Barry to make the next steps in his coaching journey in the future."

As Cambridge United gears up for life back in League One, Corr's departure serves as a reminder that even the most loyal partnerships sometimes have to evolve. For fans wearing the club's colors, it's a moment to appreciate the past while looking forward to what's next—both for the team and for a man who gave his all to the U's.
