Sometimes, the universe just knows how to make a moment unforgettable—and for New England Patriots' first-round pick Caleb Lomu, that moment came at 30,000 feet.

As the rookie tackle made his way from Arizona to Boston for the team's rookie minicamp, his flight turned into a family affair he'll never forget. The pilot on his American Airlines flight? None other than his uncle, Curtis Tanner.

The heartwarming connection came together in classic, last-minute fashion. "He texted my mom the day before and said, 'Hey, what flight is Caleb on? I just got assigned to this last-minute flight to Boston,'" Lomu shared. "It ended up being the exact same flight."

But Uncle Curtis wasn't about to let this opportunity pass without a little playful fun. "He's the type of uncle who's going to embarrass you a bit," Lomu laughed. "My family told me to film it."

Sure enough, as passengers settled in, the pilot's voice crackled over the intercom. Lomu, expecting the moment, waited—and then his uncle called him to the front of the plane. The proud uncle presented him with a flight pin commemorating his first flight together and announced to everyone who the young man was.

"Proud uncle is what he was saying," Lomu recalled. "It was awesome."

The story came to light during Lomu's official welcome at Gillette Stadium, where Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his son Jonathan Kraft were on hand. Kraft summed it up best with a knowing smile: "How great is that karma?"

For a rookie about to embark on his NFL journey, it was the perfect send-off—proof that sometimes, the best moments in sports happen before you even step on the field.
