In a move that brings a familiar face back to Baltimore, six-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Calais Campbell is set to sign a one-year deal with the Ravens for his 19th NFL season. The 39-year-old veteran, who played for the Ravens from 2020 to 2022, will rejoin the team that saw him earn a Pro Bowl nod in his first season with the franchise.

Campbell's return to Baltimore comes after a series of one-year stops with the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, and Arizona Cardinals—all teams that missed the playoffs during his tenure. Last season, despite playing on an injury-depleted defense, Campbell still managed to log 6.5 sacks, proving that age hasn't diminished his ability to make an impact in the trenches.

The timing of this signing is particularly meaningful. Campbell will be reunited with new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter, who served as the team's defensive backs coach during Campbell's first stint in Baltimore. Known throughout the league as one of the NFL's premier leaders, Campbell's presence in the locker room could be invaluable as Minter implements his defensive vision in his first year at the helm.

On the field, Campbell will help fortify a defensive line that's also expecting the return of two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike. According to ESPN, Madubuike underwent neck surgery earlier this month but could be ready to play for the first time since Week 2 of last season—a potential game-changer for Baltimore's defensive front.

There's a strategic element to this signing as well. By bringing Campbell aboard this week, the addition won't count against the NFL's compensatory draft pick formula for 2027. The Ravens, who have long been masters of manipulating the system to stockpile draft capital, recently lost center Tyler Linderbaum and tight end Isaiah Likely to big-money deals elsewhere. However, they offset those departures with their own marquee signing of edge rusher Trey Hendrickson.

For a Ravens team looking to build on its defensive identity, bringing back a proven leader and productive veteran like Campbell feels like a perfect fit—both on the stat sheet and in the locker room.
