The WNBA's annual GM survey is out, and there's a new name at the top of the franchise player rankings. For the first time in two years, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is no longer the unanimous choice to build a team around.
Heading into the 2026 season, Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers has claimed the top spot, earning 33% of the vote from league general managers. Clark, along with Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson, tied for second place at 20% each. The shift marks a significant change from last year's survey, when Clark was the clear favorite with 50% of the vote following her historic rookie campaign.
So what changed? Clark's second season was derailed by injuries. Groin and quad issues limited the Fever guard to just 13 games in 2025, though she still averaged an impressive 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds when on the court. Her playmaking and scoring ability remained undeniable, and she reminded everyone of her superstar potential by earning MVP honors during international play at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying tournament.
But in a league overflowing with elite young talent, perceptions can shift quickly. Bueckers' rise to the top spot reflects her own emergence as a dominant force, and it sets up one of the most anticipated storylines of the new season. Adding even more drama? Clark and Bueckers are scheduled to face off on opening night.
Other players receiving votes in the survey include rising star Dominique Malonga (13%), as well as veterans Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. The results serve as a reminder that in the WNBA, the race for supremacy is always evolving—and this season promises to be one of the most competitive yet.
