Lakers superstar LeBron James and WNBA phenom Caitlin Clark have developed a genuine friendship.

In a sports world that loves a good crossover story, Caitlin Clark and LeBron James have quietly built one of the most genuine inter-league friendships we've seen. The Indiana Fever superstar, who has single-handedly reshaped the WNBA's popularity, recently opened up about her bond with the Lakers legend during an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews.

"I mean, I think LeBron has just been there to support me more than anything," Clark shared. "He understands the microscope that I'm under and the spotlight that's on me, and I think he just wants to be there for me more than anything."

The friendship, which has been brewing for a while, took a personal turn last season when Clark's 2025 campaign was cut short by a groin injury. While most fans were focused on her absence from the court, James was quietly checking in behind the scenes. "When I was hurt last year, he reached out and was like, 'Is there any way I can help you? Like, is there anybody I can connect you with?'" Clark recalled. "Just somebody that's there trying to help you, trying to help make the game better, help you improve. I think that's a lot of our relationship now."

It makes perfect sense when you think about it. If anyone in the NBA knows what it's like to carry the weight of sky-high expectations from day one, it's LeBron James. Coming straight out of high school as "The Chosen One," James has lived under a spotlight that few athletes—male or female—have ever experienced. Now, he's using that perspective to mentor a player who is doing for the WNBA what he once did for the NBA.

But their connection isn't just about basketball wisdom and support. Clark revealed that the two have bonded over a shared passion for golf—a sport James has recently taken up with enthusiasm. "We text about golf, so that's next on our bucket list, is to play golf together," Clark said with a laugh. "I'm not sure either of us are too great, so we might be chasing the ball a lot."

Clark, who has repeatedly called James her "G.O.A.T.," was recently spotted courtside at a Lakers-Pacers game, snapping photos of the four-time champion. It's the kind of full-circle moment that reminds us how sports connect generations of greatness. As Clark prepares to lead the Fever into the 2026 season—kicking off Saturday against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings—she does so knowing she has the support of the greatest to ever play the men's game.
