The BYU Cougars' roster continues to evolve this offseason, as wing Tyler Mrus has entered the transfer portal after one year in Provo. He becomes the fifth Cougar player to seek a new destination, marking a significant shift for the program.

Standing at 6-foot-7, Mrus arrived at BYU with a reputation as a sharpshooter after two productive seasons at Idaho, where he averaged 9.7 points and knocked down 38% of his three-point attempts. The expectation was for him to provide crucial floor-spacing in the competitive Big 12. However, that shooting prowess didn't translate; his role diminished significantly in conference play, and he finished the season averaging just 2.0 points per game while shooting 31% from deep across 27 appearances.

His departure is particularly notable given the Cougars' well-documented need for consistent outside shooting this past season. A golden opportunity emerged for Mrus to claim a larger role following a series of season-ending injuries to key players like Dawson Baker and Richie Saunders, but he was unable to seize it. His lone standout performance was a perfect 4-for-4 three-point night in a 15-point outing against Pacific.

With one year of eligibility remaining, Mrus will now look for a fresh start where he can rediscover his shooting stroke and contribute more consistently on the court.
