The Los Angeles Rams entered the NFL Draft with a roster already built for a Super Bowl run, but instead of loading up for an immediate championship push, they made a bold move toward the future—selecting quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick.
While the decision raised eyebrows among some fans, Rams defensive end Byron Young is fully backing the front office's vision. In a recent interview, Young praised Simpson as "a good quarterback" and "a great kid," echoing the positive sentiment many around the league share about the young signal-caller.
"I think he's a good quarterback, he's a great kid," Young said. "With the front office, trusting everything that they do is in the best interest of this team. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes."
Young also highlighted the depth of the Rams' draft class, noting that the team added talent across multiple positions—including defensive linemen, tight ends, and receivers. He emphasized that regardless of where these rookies were selected, their presence will push the veterans to elevate their game.
"We got some great players, got some D-linemen, got some tight ends. Got some receivers in there. I can't wait to see what these guys bring to this. I have no doubt that these guys will come in, definitely help motivate you regardless of what pick they are."
Interestingly, the Rams only added one defensive player in the entire draft—nose tackle Tim Keenan III, selected with the 232nd overall pick in the seventh round. That gives defensive coordinator Chris Shula another big body to work with in the trenches.
While this draft class may not make an immediate splash in 2026, it's clear the Rams are playing the long game. This group is designed to sustain success beyond this season and—hopefully—well into the post-Matthew Stafford era. For a team with championship aspirations, that kind of forward-thinking is exactly what keeps a dynasty alive.
