Manchester City can seize the Premier League summit when they visit Turf Moor on Wednesday evening.

Pep Guardiola’s side trail leaders Arsenal by three points ahead of this crucial fixture. A victory by more than two goals would lift the visitors into top spot. City have found their stride lately following their recent triumph over the Gunners. They look to extend a run of 29 games unbeaten against newly promoted sides.

Burnley, meanwhile, face the daunting prospect of relegation confirmation if results go against them this week. The Clarets occupy 19th place and have not tasted victory since February. Scott Parker’s men must find a way to stop an 11-game losing streak against the visitors. They have struggled at home, conceding 25 goals at Turf Moor so far this campaign. Survival appears unlikely unless they can produce a perfect performance against the title challengers.

Last Meeting: Man City 5–1 Burnley (27 Sep 2025, Premier League)

Scott Parker deals with a depleted squad for this difficult midweek encounter. Josh Cullen, Zeki Amdouni, and Hannibal Mejbri remain unavailable due to various injuries. Jordan Beyer and Connor Roberts are also ruled out of the matchday squad. Axel Tuanzebe remains a doubt, while Kyle Walker could face his former club.

The visitors must cope without influential holding midfielder Rodri due to a groin issue. Ruben Dias is also set to miss out as he continues his recovery. Josko Gvardiol remains sidelined, forcing further changes to the defensive line. That said, Nico Gonzalez is expected to deputise in the middle of the park.

Burnley have won just one of their 19 Premier League meetings with City. They currently endure a 12-game winless run at Turf Moor in the top flight. Parker’s side has conceded 212.5% more home goals than they did last season. Despite snatching draws against top sides recently, the Clarets look physically and mentally drained.

City have collected 21 away points since December, more than any other Premier League team. They have scored five or more goals in five different matches against Burnley. Erling Haaland averages one goal every 36 minutes against the East Lancashire outfit. Guardiola’s team has not lost a league game in April since 2021.

Burnley Predicted XI (5-3-2): Dubravka; Walker, Ekdal, Laurent, Esteve, Hartman; Florentino, Ugochukwu, Ward-Prowse; Anthony, Flemming

Manchester City Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O’Reilly; Gonzalez, Bernardo; Semenyo, Cherki, Doku; Haaland

The match is live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Ultra HDR. Coverage begins at 19:00 BST.
