As Newcastle United push through the final stretch of the season, former Magpie Olivier Bernard has weighed in on the left-back debate, suggesting that Dan Burn offers the "security" the team needs to close out the campaign on a strong note.

While Lewis Hall has been Eddie Howe's preferred choice at left-back for most of the season, starting the majority of matches, Burn has stepped in when called upon—a flexibility that has proven valuable in a challenging season for the club. Bernard, speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, highlighted the contrasting styles of the two players, noting that the decision isn't straightforward.

"It's difficult because they are two different players," Bernard explained. "One is an attacking full-back, and the other is more defensive but still likes to get forward. Burn isn't the quickest, but he loves to overlap and has the stamina for it. Hall, on the other hand, is a tidier player who excels in one-on-one situations."

Bernard emphasized that in the high-stakes environment of the Premier League, especially with just three games remaining, stability should be the priority. "I'd like to see Burn playing at left-back. I'm not saying he's a natural left-back, but in terms of security, Burn is the better choice. If you're losing by one or two goals, then Hall would be the better option to get back into the game. But you need to start with the basics and level up if needed."

For Newcastle fans, this tactical debate adds another layer of intrigue as the team looks to finish the season with momentum—and perhaps a bit of defensive reassurance from the towering Burn.
