Jason Licht understands the reality of today’s NFL. Patience is scarce, and expectations are immediate.

Jason Licht knows the modern NFL doesn't wait. In a league where patience is a luxury and results are demanded instantly, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' general manager operates on a different clock. While fans and owners crave immediate impact from high draft picks, Licht champions a more traditional, developmental view: true evaluation takes time.

"The rule of thumb was always three years, and I still don’t want to get away from that," Licht stated, addressing the pressure for rookies to become Pro Bowlers overnight. "In today’s day and age, it’s you want it now... You still want to give them three years."

This philosophy has quietly built a foundation for sustained success. As Licht prepares for his 13th draft with the Bucs, his track record speaks volumes. His very first pick in 2014, Mike Evans, has already cemented a Hall of Fame-worthy career. More recently, Licht's drafts have fueled an impressive run: five straight playoff appearances, four consecutive NFC South titles, and a Lombardi Trophy from Super Bowl LV.

While the celebrated Tom Brady era involved savvy veteran acquisitions, the core was built through the draft. Now, with Baker Mayfield leading the charge to back-to-back division wins, the focus returns to replenishing talent. Licht acknowledges the balance between instant contribution and long-term growth, aiming for a class that can help now while developing into future cornerstones. It's a patient approach in an impatient world, one that has consistently kept the Buccaneers in contention.
