The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly preparing to turn the page on their Giannis Antetokounmpo era after 13 unforgettable seasons. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the franchise will actively seek trade offers for the two-time MVP, setting the stage for one of the most dramatic roster shake-ups in recent NBA history.
As expected, the Golden State Warriors have emerged as a persistent suitor in trade rumors. Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus suggests a deal that would send the Bucks a package centered around 36-year-old Jimmy Butler—a six-time All-Star with four championship rings—along with young guard Brandin Podziemski and a haul of future draft picks. The proposed trade includes a 2026 first-rounder, a 2027 first-rounder, and protected first-round picks in 2030 and 2032.
Butler, who is recovering from a knee injury and expected to miss the start of the 2026-27 season, isn’t exactly a long-term building block for Milwaukee. However, his expiring $56.8 million contract could become a valuable asset for future moves. “At 36, Butler isn’t Milwaukee’s ideal piece to build around,” Pincus noted, “though his expiring contract could be used again in trade.”
For the Bucks, the real value lies in the draft compensation. The idea is to collect distant first-round picks with the hope that both Stephen Curry and Antetokounmpo will be winding down their primes by the time those selections become valuable. For this to happen, Antetokounmpo would likely need to push hard for the move—potentially scaring off other suitors by signaling he’ll leave as a free agent in 2027.
With the Warriors reportedly unwilling to part with Draymond Green, this hypothetical package may be Milwaukee’s best option if they want to deal with Golden State this summer. Whether the Bucks pull the trigger or explore other offers, one thing is clear: the NBA landscape could look very different very soon.
