Bryson DeChambeau's future with LIV Golf is hanging in the balance, and the drama just keeps building. The uncertainty stems from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) announcing they'll pull their financial backing from the league after the 2026 season—a move that caught stars like DeChambeau and Jon Rahm off guard, especially since they were told just months ago that funding would continue through 2032.
DeChambeau made the leap from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf in June 2022, but things haven't quite gone according to plan. Despite LIV's rocky road, the 32-year-old has still managed to claim a major title since joining, cementing his status as one of golf's biggest—if not the biggest—stars. It's no secret that the PGA Tour would love to have him back competing on their circuit. But is a return actually in the cards?
In a recent interview with ESPN while practicing ahead of LIV Golf Virginia, DeChambeau addressed the elephant in the room. With LIV's future so uncertain, he was asked about a potential return to the PGA Tour. First, he fired a shot, insisting the PGA Tour "isn't doing great right now" and pointing to their recent cost-cutting measures as proof. Then, he opened the door just a crack.
"I think, from my perspective, I'd love to grow my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more," DeChambeau said. "I'd love to do a bunch of dubbing in different languages, giving the world more reason to watch YouTube. And then I'd love to play tournaments that want me." He also described any potential punishment from the PGA Tour for a return as "quite unfortunate in my opinion, considering what I could do for them."
On the surface, it sounds like DeChambeau is laying down the gauntlet, signaling that he's open to a comeback—but only on his terms. However, his authenticity came into question just minutes later when he urged the PGA Tour to drop their egos and work toward a resolution. The mixed messages leave fans wondering: Is Bryson really ready to come home, or is this just another round of golf's ongoing chess match?
