Sometimes the best way to find your rhythm is to stop searching so hard. For Seattle Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo, that meant getting out of his own head.

Just a week ago, Woo sat in the media room searching for answers after back-to-back rough outings. His usually sharp responses were scattered and uncertain. "I don't know. It's... I got... not a ton of answers," he admitted.

Fast forward to today, and a completely different Woo took the mound. Facing the Atlanta Braves—the team that strikes out the least in the National League—Woo delivered six dominant innings, matching his season-high with nine strikeouts. The result? A series win for Seattle, handing Atlanta their first series loss of the season.

So what changed? Woo's answer might surprise you: he started thinking less.

"It's like I was good and I wanted to be great. You try to do more, you try to be perfect, and you lose sight of what makes yourself so good," Woo explained. "For me, that's simplifying and just competing. My best brand of baseball is, do my homework before and talk to catchers, but when it's time to go on the mound, just go be."

That mindset shift paid off immediately. Woo opened the game by striking out reigning NL Rookie of the Year Drake Baldwin with his slider, then got Michael Harris to fly out on the sweeper. Despite a 24-pitch first inning that included a nine-pitch battle with Matt Olson, Woo stuck to his plan: be aggressive in the zone.

The numbers tell the story—17 of 21 first-pitch strikes. But Woo's calm, focused approach after the game might be the most telling stat of all.

And he had plenty of support. Julio Rodríguez launched a home run, and Cole Young delivered a three-hit day, giving the Mariners all the offense they needed to back up their starter's resurgence.

For Woo, the lesson was simple: sometimes the best version of yourself is the one that trusts the work and lets the game come to you.
