The Boston Bruins were hit by the Buffalo Sabres' metaphorical truck in Game 4 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Bruins entered Game 4 trailing the series 2-1 after taking a game in Buffalo.
The series was largely competitive in the first three games, and one could even argue that Boston had been the better team for most of the battle. However, that was far from the case on Saturday afternoon.
Buffalo lit the lamp less than five minutes into the game after a bad defensive zone giveaway by Fraser Minten. Two minutes later, an Elias Lindholm giveaway led to Josh Doan scoring a tip-in inches outside of Jeremy Swayman's crease.
Two minutes after that, yet another defensive zone turnover from the Bruins led to an easy rush from Buffalo's Zach Benson, who potted the third goal in six minutes.
Byram Bowen scored once more in the first period to give the Sabres an utterly shocking 4-0 lead over the Bruins at TD Garden heading into the first intermission.
Boston played alright in the second period, but it was too little too late as Buffalo put two more nails in the coffin late in the third to bring the score to an astounding 6-0.
Sean Kuraly scored with 40 seconds left to cut the lead to five.
The Sabres will host the Bruins in Buffalo on Tuesday night as they continue their search for their first playoff series win since 2007.
